Fisk Choir-Promo-4-2022-TicketLeap_edited_edited_edited.jpg

Every October we host the Fisk University Choir for a single night in concert. This benefit concert raises money to support the ministries of Sherman UMC and to provide scholarships to students of Fisk University.

Over the past years, we have seen this concert grow from humble beginnings to a cornerstone of our ministry year that fills our sanctuary to overflowing with joy and praise. While always paying homage to the original Fisk Jubilee Singers’ introduction of spirituals to the world, this choir’s repertoire encompasses the full range of African American sacred music.

With this concert Sherman celebrates its 100th year in ministry in the Evanston community and beyond. In addition to supporting Fisk students, Sherman does even more here in our own backyard to “share the love of God in word and actions.” We provide assistance to Evanston families who struggle financially, partnering with other area churches to supply a local food pantry and serve meals for soup kitchens. We also mentor community youth and help support a missionary raised right here in her missions in Liberia.
